Christmas with Chris Botti
Red wine. Dark Chocolate. Roast Chicken. Snow. Ice Skating. Hot Chocolate. Presents. Cards. Santa. Love Actually. The ingredients that make the perfect Christmas. Ok fine. And Baby Jesus. The cherry on top though, is spending Christmas listening to Chris Botti and his friends. Every year, during the christmas holidays all the way till new year, Chris Botti, probably the most amazing trumpet...

My email to Titi
So I’m at Punta Del Diablo right now, which i think is the cutest place I have ever been to in my life! I love love love love love it. This is the kind of place i want to be in when i get sick of corporate life and want to escape from the world. Also I am taking time to pray for your salvation. During your stay here, you must have sinned much. I swear almost every guy i see here walked right...

My Argentinian Girl
As I was lying on the beach of La Barilla (close to Punta del Este), minding my own business, applying my tanning lotion occasionally, a girl walked up beside me with a foldable chair. She tried to open it for a minute in vain, before looking around for help. She looked deep into my eyes, and said something in spanish. I obviously had no idea what she said, but I’m pretty sure it...

A letter to Buenos Aires
To the people of Buenos Aires, I have made several observations, which I would like to share with the world. Firstly, you are an interesting race of people. When Asians don’t age, and white people look better as they get older, you guys age TERRIBLY. It’s hard to deny that BA is about extremes. People either look damn good or terrible. For guys, the younger they are, the better they look. And I...

Public Transport in Buenos Aires
I love how each ride cost 1 peso. A quarter USD. And in my few days of travel, I don’t think I have taken enough rides equivalent to one metro ticket of $2.25 in NYC. However, it has its shortcoming. The subway is good, except the last train ends at 10:30pm. Seriously?! For a city that starts dinner at 10pm, it seems a little ridiculous to cut the line that early. But instead, they have their...

Buenos Aires. Finally.
I’m here!!! Yay!!! First I want to talk about how I love to eat at airports. Isn’t that weird? I actually find pleasure eating generic foods at airport. Like mcdonalds and panda express. Nothing is more satisfying/disgusting than a nice plate of fried rice with orange chicken while you wait your flight to depart. Yum… And then I want to talk about old people. Old people are so...

Looks like it's finally happening
Thanks to the history making “white christmas”, I got stuck in New York City because all flights out of Laguardia, JFK and Newark were cancelled. FML. So instead of being in Buenos Aires sipping Malbec and eating large pieces of steak, I found myself lying on my sofa bed, under my covers, with chinese food, doritos, pinot noir and a pint of haagen dazs chocolate chocolate chip ice...

I hope Michelle is fine
Last weekend, I received a “Blocked” call from a mysterious girl called Michelle, who claims to be a friend of my wonderful B-Law inmate Stephanie. She started the conversation really enthusiastically, introducing herself, telling me how great she thought my blog was. Which of course, I chuckled and said “Thank you.” I love hearing people telling me how great my blog is....

The world is my playground
I have decided to be a global citizen. I am starting to lose my definition of the word “home.” When I was back in Singapore, everything seemed so foreign. The people seemed weird. The landscape looked different. And I thought to myself, maybe because New York is my new home. But when I got back, I didn’t feel the comfort I thought I would get from returning home. It felt…...

Piranha 3D
For those who don’t like to use their brains in the movies, this movie is for you. Its all about pornography, gore and ridiculousness. Pure ridiculousness. If that’s even a word. They could have chosen a better looking cast. Seriously. Or the people from Jersey Shore. I would pay a lot to see those people swim in a lake filled with those nasty looking piranha. Just saying.

Chicago!
The windy city. Oprah’s head quarters in her quest for world domination. Land of the stubborn people who refuse to give in to New York’s classic slice of pizza.  I have been wanting to visit this city for the longest time. I’ve talked about it for a year. And finally I am here. For no great reason to be honest. Just for a vacation, away from New York City. So as I read Anthony...

Dear Titi, I hope you enjoyed your last meal here
My roommate Titi is leaving me for a semester… leaving me for Hong Kong… which happens to be my second home. Wait. Now its my third home. After New York and Singapore…  So because it was her last day, I decided to prepare a last meal for her. For being so awesome the entire summer. And it had to be epic for such a great friend. And what can be more epic than a 5 course meal. :D ...

"Restaurant 2-months"
Fail. Why do you call it restaurant week if it last for 2 months?! Thats like half the summer! I know it seems weird that I’m the one complaining about it. That’s because today I took off my clothes and the mirror showed me something absolutely disgusting. This was after seeing the kickass body of that korean “situation” from the upcoming “jerseyshorish”...

@ Po with some of the best people in the world
Po is an italian restaurant in the west village. Mario Batali was one of the people that opened it a few years back. Since it’s restaurant week, I thought I will bring my team out to a fancy lunch to reward them for all their hard work.  The restaurant is small. Like most italian places. Very very small. There was probably only like 10 tables in there. A little dark. Nothing I didn’t...

Some thoughts about Restaurant Week
To be honest, my opinion doesn’t mean much here since I havent been to enough restaurants during restaurant week to pass judgement on restaurant week. So you don’t have to agree with me. In fact, if you think I am wrong, feel free to prove me wrong.  I personally think restaurant week is a scam. Restaurants that usually serve amazing food ditch their best ingredients and throw forth a...

Stars?
Maybe I should start rating the restaurants I go to with stars. Like in Top Chef Masters. What do you guys think?

Paprika (Posted by Jenny)
Hiiiii Derrick’s followers! My name is Jenny and I’m Derrick’s summer suitemate and fellow foodie. Regrettably, I don’t have the luxury of taking FCI courses or snagging ritzy reservations to places like Jean Georges, but I think I love food (and can write well enough) to match up to his food blogging :D I’ve baked all my life and have probably eaten more dessert...

Say what, Chef?
Yesterday evening was my first day at the French Culinary Institute.  The first thing we had to do was to put on our chef uniform. So i brought my stuff into the changing room, and had no idea what went where. Except that I got a ridiculously large uniform and I can’t change it because my name has been sewn on it. I put it on, looked at the mirror and saw how ridiculous I looked. I think...

Why oh why...
Today is suppose to be a good day. Unfortunately, so many good things are happening at the same time, i have to miss them, hence a bad good day. #1: First day of class at the French Culinary Institute. I am suppose to be really excited. I think I am.  #2: Glee season finale. Its regionals! Finally. New Directions versus Vocal Adrenaline! BUT I am going to miss it because of the FCI class. #3:...
